Fixed Satellite Systems- Attachment to Roof

I noticed in one of the latest Club Mags someone saying they lost their satellite Dome whilst travelling and discovered it was only glued on! As someone thinking of having a fold down dish fitted I wondered if this was the norm or do they use any other fixings?
