Recommendations of areas and sites near Bordeaux

Hi everyone

We have just spent a wonderful 2 weeks on the Il de Re near La Rochelle in France. It was our first venture abroad with the van and was a really successful trip. We would like to go a bit further south of France now. Can anyone recommend any areas and
sites near Bordeaux or between La Rochelle and Bordeaux? We have 2 boys who will be 9 and 6 by next summer and love biking, the beach, body boarding and football. Any recommendations gratefully received. Hope you've all had good holidays too.
