Warning: new 'vans with LED trafficators
Yesterday, we went to collect our new series 3 Bailey Unicorn but returned home without it. After all of the formalities were concluded, we hitched-up our Freelander 2 and tested the lights. All appeared well until I noticed that the dashboard light which
confirms that the caravan's flashing trafficators are working was not operating. After carrying out various tests, speaking to someone involved in the automotive world and contacting Land Rover, it became apparent that the LED flashers being fitted to new
caravans do not draw sufficient current from the car to trigger the dasboard indicator. The solution is to fit a device into the caravan's wiring to increase the current draw. My Land Rover Dealer found information on his Land Rover website stating that
this is an issue with all Freelanders fitted with Land Rover's trailer wiring and I guess it will apply to some other car manufacturers' systems. If you have a new caravan with LED trafficators on order, you may wish to check this out for your vehicle before
delivery to avoid the disappointment which we experienced yesterday. Incidentally, our dealer was not aware of this problem because ours was the first Unicorn 3 he had delivered so your dealer may also not yet be aware there is a problem.
