The world will be a quieter place. What an inspirational man, true to his beliefs, resolute in his convictions and steadfast in his fight for civil rights and equality. He helped the 'world' enormously and got things changed! Not a bad boxer either, arguably the best ever!

To all those of us who love sport he was simply the towering figure of the 20th century. A great sportsman and an inspiration to millions. We were priviliedged to have shared years with him. Superlatives are not enough. We will not see his like again.

A true giant of sport. And a man of principles. If only most of today's boxers were as articulate. Such a sad way to spend his none fighting days, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's only 5 years after retiring. But he continued to be a great ambassador. RIP

Been travelling today so didn't hear the sad news. My dad used to train boxers for a while so we always watched Harry Carpenter and boxing. Grew up watching the Greatest. He was around forever or so it seemed. Sad to see such a strong man humbled by illness
but the memory of when he was at his pomp will live on.0 -

Can still remember as a young lad getting up in the middle of the night to watch the first Sonny Liston fight, but I doubt I will ever see anything like the Joe Frazier bouts again.
Magnificent athlete.

To me he epitomised the sport of Boxing. He did what he said, he stood by his beliefs, never took a bribe (who would dare ask him?) Filled all the boxing arena's he faught in with his predictions, he brought the sport of boxing alive, people even watched hoping to see him put down, but he rose above them.....

The funeral procession is being shown on BBC news at the moment. He had an extraordinary life and the tributes he's receiving are fitting and were hard earned.
I can only think of 2 or 3 other people in my lifetime who have been so universally admired; their legends live on.

Without doubt in my opinion the best boxer of all time , like others I remember getting up in the early hours to watch him .
In his day to box for the world title you had to be ranked in the top ten and move towards the top of the rankings , I only remember there being one Heavy weight title , some would say he stuck around to long , but we must remember he never boxed for 3 years after the Yankie administration removed his licence !
For me he had everything ,amazing skill and for those who said he could not punch ... watch the Foreman fight ... compared to todays so called champions , he was The Greatest ...
