Contrasts
We have been going to France for nearly 30 years on and off and we have just returned from a month there. Whilst we don't speak French beyond the basics everything about France is as familiar as camping in the UK. I am well aware, as others will be, of the term familiarity breeds contempt and I am wondering if I am suffering from that complaint? What prompted this soul serching was an unscheduled overnight stop at the Club's Bearstead site on the way home. This is where the contrast comes in. We stayed at nine sites in France during our trip and they have been a mix of commercial and municipals. It started me thinking whether French campsites have made any advances in the services they offer to customers in that time? We arrived at Bearstead to an immaculate campsite with excellent toilet facilities but I can't say that about many the campsites we stayed on in France. I fully appreciate that the French experience does not revolve just around sites and site facilities but it was an observation I made. I don't know if Ina will see this but we were on one site in France together and we both stayed at Bearstead both by conicidence.
