Sites in Lindos, Rhodes

Hi, We are attending a wedding next year in Lindos Rhodes & would like to make an adventure of it by touring with our caravan en route. Could anyone recommend a site in or near Lindos & any advice on undertaking such a trip.

    Rhodes is a small island, IMO it is hardly worth the expense of the ferry costs to take the outfit there. 

    Driving in Rhodes is easy, The coastal scenery is spectacular and I have found that the people are laid back and friendly.

    The way with the least driving is down to Venice; ferry to Patras; cross Greece and the Corinthian Canal to Piraeus; then ferry to Rhodes. That will take you a week assuming you are not tugging. So unless you have at least a month then not really suitable
    by caravan.

    Also, while Greek ferry operatives are skilled and know what they are doing you will have your heart in your mouth when they pack your car onboard.

    Not wishing to deter from your adventure, but I met a bloke in October last waiting to board the Calais to Dover ferry in his motorhome.

    My wife and I were waiting to board a later ferry and I got chatting to a bloke in a motorhome with British number plates.

    He told me left for Greece (Rhodes) in May, taking four or five days to get down to Greece driving thro Germany, Austria, Macedonia and the like.

    He had to come back weeks earlier because the Middle East was emptying itself and heading to Germany at Angela Merkel's kind invitiation.

    Every vehicle at EVERY border crossing was being searched for foreigners, causing a four or five day wait at each of the half dozen borders heading north.

    So . . . . getting down to Greece, against the flow of the migrants, may be quick.

    Coming back in a car and caravan may be a very different story at each border crossing.

    Whilst holdups heading north are still to be expected, the situation seems to have calmed down considerably in the meantime. With new rules introduced and the closing of the Greek/Macedonian border only a trickle of refugees are getting any further so once one has left Greece itself, the remaining border crossings should be less stressful.

    I'd advise against the land route, though, and recommend ferrying across from Italy instead. Then you should definitely have no more bother on your way back once you've managed to get on the ferry.
