Unable to book overnight stops on way to Croatia

Have planned trip to Croatia late August of 2014 and all of September, but am unable to book overnight stops of less than 5 nights. Do I need to book or are there sufficent sites that I should be able to stop over for 2 or 3 nights. Concerned that I will
not find pitch for short breaks to restup.
