Confused - French tag >3.5tonnes?

Looking at French autoroutes and the vehicles classifications, it says GVW <3,500kgs is category 2 but our twin axle caravan is MTPLM is 1,850kg and our towing vehicle is 1,760kgs unladen, so with awning, bikes and luggage in our vehicle (Toyota hilux double
cab pickup) will exceed 3500kgs.... Meaning we are 3 axles and category 4 along with hgvs........ Is this right?! The cost is so much higher!!!! Is it possible to avoid the toll routes?
