Taking dogs to France

Hi,  we have been travelling to France now for a few years and are now considering taking our 2 dogs with us. I have read many sites of costs involved in getting the pet passport and vets fees for treatment before returning to UK. Has anyone recent experience
of how much this all costs? Some say as much as £200 each dog.  Can you also confirm if the cost of the passport is a one off and lasts forever or do the dogs need boosters for the rabies vaccination?
