Hello.

We are thinking of using the French automatic toll payment system this winter on our pilgrimage south, has anyone any experience of it?  Are there any catches?

    loads of info and posts here about the Sanef tag .... if only the search facility worked.

    Brilliant! Stick it your window, drive up to a barrier, it bleeps, opens the barrier & you get a bill when you get home. No faffing about trying to reach ticket machines, finding the last booths ticket and you have the option of a nice wide HGV lane to aim
    for. Cool

    Hi, As said there are lots of post re 'Tags' but CT is not the easiest forum to search. I have two 'rules' that I use to make it easier when using CT-I serch for the subject on Google-or whataever-and I compose all lengthy messages on a notes app before
    posting into CT to try and avoid the infuriating time limit where you spend ages responding to a post and then lose it all!

    So, looking on Google this came up as a recent thread on the use of Tags that I posted in;

     http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/community/discussions/sites-touring/overseas-sites-touring/Sanef-tag-is-it-worth-it/rt/1532418/?p=3#index4

    Hope it helps.

    All the various privatised  French motorway companies will let you have a tag. Some make a minimal charge, some charge quite a bit more, some bill you to a credit card and some to a bank direct debit -  those companies have varied levels of charging you too.  But whichever tag you choose  it  will work and there are no catches.

    The ones who haven't got them tend to think they are a waste of time and money and the ones who have them (like us) think they are brilliant. We've a Sanef tag and head for the 't' and 30kph booths and you don't even have to stop.

    Pretty much the same as us, we have been using it for the last 2 years and find it great. Never had the nerve to do the 30kph lane yet but having watched your video I can see that the beep is much earlier and you would still have plenty of time to stop if
    it didn't work. Thanks for posting the link Smile

    The 30kph lanes are brilliant always use them and find them less nerve wracking as the barrier goes up a lot further away from the barrier than when using the normal lane.

    I am just hoping my 4 year old tag still works as we are heading at 30kph towards the barriersSurprised

    Might give SANEF in Harrogate a ring and see if they will swap it out sometime over this winter.

    We have had a Sanef tag for years as we live in France for most of the year.  I wouldn't be without it.  Particularly driving a right hand drive vehicle when it is raining.....!  It makes life so much easier.  The only thing I would comment on is that there is a fixed charge of £5 for every month you use the card. You don't pay it every month, only the months you use the card.   So, for example, if you travel on 31st of the month and the 1st of the next month on the motorways that will cost you £10 in charges in addition to your toll fees.

    The ATMB Tag is on offer for €1.60 for the month you use it.
