Difference between groundsheet and awning carpet?

We recently bought an awning, not having had one for a few years. We never had anything on the floor, but are considering it this time. Is there a difference between a carpet and a groundsheet? Is one better for grass and the other for hard standing?
And, which if any online sites would you recommend?
