First trip to Holland

We are thinking about spending September touring Holland, probably visiting Bruges on the way and into Germany for Cologne and maybe The Romantic Road on the way back. Would welcome any information from anyone who has made a similar trip, campsites, routes
etc and what weather to expect at that time of year.
