Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken?

Planning a first  trip to Interlaken area in June. Can't decide if we should base ourselves in Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen, in terms of towing, weather, convenience for site seeing etc. would be grateful to receive any opinions as to pro's and con's of either
place.
