Le Mans 24Hr Race

We're route planning for a trip starting in the week before the Le Mans race, thinking of skirting Le Mans on the motorway on the Thursday before the race. Does any one have any experience of travelling in the area at that time and it's effects on traffic
flow and campsites for overnighting please? Expecting some distruption but wondering if we should completely avoid? Thank you!
