Leisure batteries when in winter storage

Our 2014 Swift Ace Ambassador was in store from August 2014 until April this year.  In February 2015 we received an Email from Tracker to say the unit wasn't 'communicating' properly.

The dealers have now suggested that the battery should be taken off and given a top-up charge 3 or 4 times a year.  The problem is that if the battery is removed neither the tracker or alarm can function.

We have a powertouch mover fitted which requires a high rated battery but it would seem sensible to buy a lower rated battery for over-winter storage to keep the tracker/alarm functioning while the other battery can be kept on a trickle charge ready for
caravanning in the new seaon.

Sorry for such a wandering question but does anyone have any suggestions or comments?

Thanks
