Boiling Battery

Hi i wonder if anyone could give me some advice, we had to cut a holiday short bercause of the carbon monixide alarm going off (gas was turned off), really bad fumes in the van its less than two years old.Upon opening the battery box we fould the battery literaly boiling over , all battery liquid was bubbling out of the top of the battery and the smell was horrible. It has been suggested the charging system could be wrong?? battery is 110 amps and was bought in 2011 so not too old. Van going in to dealers on thursday any suggestions of possible cause please. Sorry about any spelling errors but spell thing does not work
