Book ahead yes/no

Hello, been caravanning for 15 years and a member for 12 but new to the 'Forum'. For the first time we will venture abroad into France for the month of June, Eurotunnel then down the west coast and back up the eastern side. Am I being sensible in booking
the tunnel return and one site near Le Havre for 3 nights outward bound then doing as we please and taking a chance on sites as we go, or is that not recommended. Thanks for any replies.
