Tow car confusion!

Please help my confusion. We have a bailey Olympus with an un laden weight of 1250. I have been reading about the Nissan x trail and it seems to be a match. BUT I was under the impression the caravan could be no more than. 85% of the cars kerb weight. The
kerb weight of the Nissan is 1525, so 85% of that is 1296 which would allow us no room for equipment etc. What am I missing? Is this a suitable tow car for us? Thanks
