First timers to Italy

Hi

We are planning to visit the Italian lakes for the first time in May/June this year then possibly back via the med into southern France before heading back home.  We'll be travelling in our 7m motorhome with our dog. We'd be grateful for any views
and advice on the best routes to take into northern Italy from the Eurotunnel (toll/non toll/tunnels/passes etc) and on-route stops. We’re happy to use the French motorhome aires and German stellplatz on route (do Austria/Switzerland/Italy have anything similar?).
We also have the 2015 ACSI book. We hear Lake Garda can be very commercialised, should we head for a different lake? Any recommendations of where to go and campsites would be very much appreciated.
