Awning Rail Spreader Tool

Our new caravan's awning rail only has access points for the awning bead at the extreme ends whereas our previous two caravans had intermediate access points about shoulder height . These made fitting the awning much easier. I have seen what is described
as an Awning Rail Spreader Tool. This appears to be for opening up a crushed rail but could it be safely used to create additional access points ? Alternatively, is there any other way of doing it or is there a different specific tool available?
