Double reversed polarity

We have a reverse polarity switch fitted to our caravan and on extended touring trips abroad it has proved useful as we move every few days.
When the buzzer goes, we disconnect, flip the switch and reconnect – job done.
But on our last trip in France and Andorra, we found two locations where the buzzer operated (and the reverse polarity light on our Sargent PSU also lit) regardless of which direction the switch was thrown.
We just did without mains power for a day or two and moved on.

But we remain mystified about how this can happen.
Can anyone explain?
