What is the road like for towing?
We're thinking of cutting across France from Issoire to the Montelimar / Avignon area using the N102 but the map suggests that the last 54k (33 miles) before Aubenas along the upper reaches of the Ardeche is quite twisty. It may also be hilly but there are
no steep gradient markings shown on the map. Has anyone used this route and, if so, what is it like for towing? It will be mid June when we go. Thanks in advance.

The N102 road is perfectly towable - with some long steady ascents as you go south, but as you surmise the last 25 miles or so from the top of the pass is quite a steep winding descent to Aubenas. That section is slow. Use third gear and follow the lorries
as they wind slowly down the hill. Take it carefully, but it's not life threatening !0 -
Hi John, Whenever looking at routes I always go to Google maps and streetview to gauge what I will find. I also found some video on youtube last year when looking at using one of the Swiss passes where Google streetview wasn't available.

Thanks in advance.We've done it lots of times, in both directions, and it's just as Eurotraveller describes, and in the right season the gorse on the hills is absolutely spectacular and the whole area scented with coconut! Do it, and enjoy it.
It's a long ascent up - but an easy road and unspectacular, but the way down is very different as it goes through the upper Ardeche region. Take your time, and stop at the very top where you have a 360 degree view, and then try to stop at one or two of
the layby/photo-opportunities on the way down.0
