Am I missing something ?
A serious question, am I missing something? Can someone please explain to me the benefits of hitch covers other than to the caravan dealers who advertise on them? What are they supposed to do? Is it to keep the rain off the hitch or is it something else?
If it is to protect them from rain then my own personal view is that it is probably counter productive. Whilst towing, and particularly on wet roads, there will be a lot of muck thrown up by the car, some of which will land and stick on the hitch and handbrake
mechanism etc. By then covering up the front of the A-frame when pitched prevents relatively clean rain from washing off some if not most of the muck. By 'protecting' it with a cover, (and I have just seen a van with the front totally embalmed in yellow plastic
sheeting held on tightly with bungees), will not allow this natural wash-off and the muck will probably harden, ready for it's next layer the next time the caravan is towed. If there is no rain during the stay then again the covers seem pointless to me. Surely
the materials used on that part of a caravan are designed to be weatherproof and will withstand a bit of rain.
