Turning homeward at the end of a tour

I know I should feel that the journey is all part of the enjoyment of a trip and, for the most part, it is.  But I can't help feeling the holiday is nearly over once I turn north to return to the channel ports after six weeks away on the Med coast.  

This is especially true when returning in October/November when the nights pull in early, the weather can be damp and cool and where stays at sites which are hardly open can be quite solitary.

How do you cope when returning in autumn or winter ?
