Towing abroad

Help!  My hubby is mad keen to take the caravan across the channel.  I am alarmed (!) because of all the driving requirements/on hrs of road and not understanding directions.  Am I being unduly cautious?  It's his 60th birthday this month and the best gift
from me would be to agree to a foreign trip.  Anyone with advice please?
