So a reported 80mph  accident has nowt to do with speed?. I await the technical expertise of others to show otherwise.

Legal limit aside ..... why is 80 so dangerous? Plenty motorway traffic travels at that kind of speed every day, white van man drives at that speed every day of his life, that's what the MH is based on and you don't routinely see them bouncing off the armco

MM its nothing to do with the difference in safety between 70 & 80.  Its to do with the law!  70 MPH is the legal maximum at the moment. End of story!

In practise I have some sympathy with your view, but that is irrelavent. The law says 70 mph so 70 it is!

But as said, leaving the legal aspect aside, speed itself doesn't appear to be the major contributing factor in the accident. Given the fact he refused to give a blood sample would suggest he was pi**ed or doped up on something.

Whitehead later admitted dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen of blood to police.

He was sentenced at the crown court today, and jailed for 12 months.

Whitehead, of Parkinson Street, Burnley, was also given a three-year driving ban.

MM, My apologies - I hadn't seen the clip at the time of my post. I have to agree. he was clearly  *****d. Not a speeding issue, although that would have made the inevitable crash worse still.

I guess this stupid man will get further punishment by hopefully not getting a payout for the damage/write off of his MH? Then when he served his ban and going to reapply for a licence he will have to resit his test? and get a loaded insurance premium, Bravo!

Is there another thread on this one?  If so I am doubtful that the MH belonged to him?  And surely he was driving too fast and lucky not to be injured?
