St Malo to the islands, good place to stop over

Begining of September we are going overnight on the Portsmouth to St Malo ferry heading for the islands, thinking of stopping over somewhere, so that we can be on the islands fairly early on the next day or day after, rather than arrive late in the day.
Could any of you frequent travellers (Deleted User User maybe) suggest a good/nice place. We will be in the M/H but not have the car on tow this time just the bikes, so if possible fairly near a town or village maybe? look forward to any suggestions, also any must
does while there. Thanks
