Canoeing in the dordogne

40 days till we head south for thee weeks, we would like to canoe on the dordogne and are considering buying inflatable kayaks to take, I know there are places to rent kayaks but wonder if there are lots of place where DIY kayaker a can take to the river,
also can anyone assist with how strong currents are as we would like to set of and then come back to the same point which would entail paddling against the current at some point.
Any advice great fully received .
