French sites with nearby car hire

We are planning our trip to the Vendee again this year, however one of the drawbacks of having a motorhome, is that it's difficult to get around the area after you have arrived, unless you have a bike and legs like Sir Bradly Wiggins!

I am much lazier than that, and would prefer to hire a car for the duration.

Does anyone have any experience of sites where either everything is nearby, or where I can car hire?
