Cassoa gold storage - insurance policy issue

After some research I've arranged to store my motor home at a local Cassoa gold standard storage facility.  I was led to believe that I would receive a discount on my insurance premium if I used a gold rated company. Armed with this information I called
an insurance company today to advise them that I will be storing our motor home at an approved storage facility. The agent recalculated my policy and advised me that the policy price will increase by £70 as I'm storing it at a different post code from my home
address, despite it being less than 3 miles away from home and sharing the same letters and one number as my home post code! Am I missing something here?  Thanks

    It is certainly the case with motor insurance. Although an address can be only 2 / 3 miles away, if the insurers have the postcode down as a higher risk area, it will adversely affect your policy. Clearly they don't think the added security of a gold compound, over your home address, outweighs the area risk. Although it would be worth getting a few more quotes, in case they are trying it on.

    We get a discount on our caravan insurance for using a gold storage site with the CC so try them. We don't get our MH till may so have not started to price insurance up yet. What company was it please?

    Jack, Try NFU, I find them first class. AND as i have an office not too far away I can go there and talk to real people!  Now that really is a novelty today.

    When I was considering a Cassoa Gold site Nr me, I was a bit worried because they used a system whereby I left my van in the arrivals & departure area and they took it away & parked it in the secure area and then when I wanted to use it, I had to give 24
    hrs notice and they got it out for me, again into the arrivals & departure area.

    I rejected that system and now use a mates house.  But In the Cassoa system I had no control over my van, could not visit to collect something left in it, and had to give 24 hrs notice of needing it.  How would my Insurance re-act to the van being stored
    with none of is security in place i.e. Wheel lock, hitchlock and movement alarm?

    I agree with TF. We use the NFU for all our vehicles, including the MH, and have found them quite open minded about the risks they will insure. They may not be the cheapest but neither are they the dearest and, as TF said, to have a local office where you
    can discuss matters with real people is a bonus these days.

    Gold sites obviously vary, because ours allows 24 hour access and you park your own van and put on what additional security you want. Entry is by a card however, fences are razor wire and there is CCTV and security is manned 24/7. TF makes a good point though,
    because what he describes is what we do every time the van goes in for service at the main dealer, and I suspect a lot of others do as well.

    To be honest it feels to me like a Cassoa Gold award is pretty worthless if it increases your insurance quotes!  I've tried 4 more insurers (not NFU yet) and all of them want additional premium because I want to store my van in a place more secure than it
    would be at home! Totally barmy!

    Jack - I am insured with Saga and just over a year ago when we got our new van, I was undecided as to whether to keep it on a Cassoa Silver site a couple of miles from home or keep it at home.  Both locations are in the same low crime area.

    There was a small saving in keeping it on the Cassoa site but weighed against the convenience of having the van at home, I decided for that option and paid the increased premium. Having gone through the small print in the Saga policy, it seems at least as
    comprehensive as the CC policy (albeit no European cover unless you pay extra when required) - which would have been twice as much.  True, I haven't experienced a claim (fingers crossed!) but they are Defacto 5* rated, so wouldn't expect them to be any worse
    than any other similar company.

    Cannot understand why anyone would want to use SAGA anymore. I was insured with them and over the last few years their rates have gone up and up. They keep saying that they are including extras but do we ever use them.

    Now have Motor Home insured with www.aib-insurance.co.uk

    Got no complaints at all. Do use the CC Club for Holiday Insurance though. It does pay to shop around you would be surprised how much they have hiked up the priemums if you have been with them for any lenth of time.

    Thank you.  NFU quote today is £150 more than Saga quote. Need to review both policies carefully.  Have to say NFU were very professional and seem to have no hidden extras.

    I've recntly got quotes from CC, C&CC, NFU, and Caravan Gaurd. I found Liverpool Victoria were much more flexible about storage  location. I got a good deal from LV with CSMA discount and discount for holding home and car policies with them,

    The OP is not exactly clear about getting a new quote or altering an existing policy. I suspect the latter given they were able to compare existing price to a new one by change of location, or am I reading it wrong?  If this is right then could the huge
    increase be the charge for altering the policy part way through?

    Re insurers I have found Comfort Insurance, a specialist broker for motorhomes who have an AVIVA policy very good & excellent price. Regards, Roy

    Now had a quote from NFU.  No extra charge for storing away from the home address. After much research will be using them this year.

    After getting my renewal this year I have got a number of quotes and found the club very high. I did also check the Financial Services Ombudsmans site to check on co plaints. The number any receive is irrelevant as larger companies get more than smaller
    ones due to the higher number of policies isdued. Look at the percentage where the Ombudsman has found for the policyholder to see who gets it wrong. Both NFU and SAGA have good reputations but I was surprised to see they had a high percentage of complaints
    accepted by the Ombudsman.

    The policies isdued by the two clubs did give additional peripheral cover usually in the loss of use cover and liability cover.

    My inclination is to go with C&CC who are over £175 less than CC. I have suported the club but having looked at the others I am less than happy with the clubs premiums.
