Camping Indigo Royat, Clermont-Ferrand
Advice please, has anyone on here ever used this site? We are heading towards Millau in May next year and would like a few days in this area on the way down. The reviews are all good apart from some negatives regarding the steep road in and out! We have
a large twin axle and it has caused a little worry as to exactly how bad this hill would be.

We stayed there a couple of years ago, we were a motorhome towing a small car on an Aframe. The site is nice and the pitches vary in size. The hill or hills in the area are steep and narrow in a residential area, the enterance if approached from the wrong
direction could be a problem. OH said although he did it with our combination and would do so again with just the motorhome he probably wouldn't attempt it with a twin axle. There may be someone on here who has or who can advise a good approach route for such
a combination, or maybe another site that would suit.0 -
We stayed there in June this year, twin axle 7.95 m, weight 1900kg towed by Volvo XC 90, 2.4 l diesel automatic.
Absolutely no problem encountered, there are hills, but nothing that bothered us.
Be careful the route you follow to get there, quite a few narrow and congested roads in the area.
Good, free wifi in the reception/cafe/pool area. Modern facilities, helpful staff.
On arrival follow the ACSI recommended route and you will be fine.

I would agree with all that's been said above - in what we've stayed there and had no problems with access (though we did get lost in Clermont Ferrand itself on the way out of the site towards the autoroute!). Nice site, in a lovely situation with great
views from the top of the site, and Royat itself is an interesting place, with lots of 'Victorian style' glasshouses, conservatories and balconies.0 -

Our main memory is on the way out from the site we came down a narrow road and was confronted by a bridge with a 3 metre height limit, controlled by lights, and no room to reverse of turn
Our stickers say 2.75m but were unsure if this included later additions such as ariels. We did manage to very slowly creep through without contact

We find Camping du Mas at Issoire more convenient for a few days looking around that area - easy access from the autoroute, no steep hills, no twisty or narrow roads, and no chance of getting lost. It's a big open spacious site, clean and well run, with supermarket and fuel close by. It's about 20 miles south of Clermont.

We are looking at the same area to meet up with friends,us from Roscoff and they from Calais. Did consider Grange Forte but quite a few negative reviews on the ACSI website so looks like Camping Du Mas as it meets our criteria for an overnight stop, which is pretty much as Eurotraveller described, .

I remember that bridge, but we did not use that road on the way to/from the site. This is why I said to mainly ignore sat nav. Follow the directions from ACSI and you will be fine.
If you miss a turning, stick on the main road and navigate using the road signs back to the motorway or whatever. There are so many roads in the area that there will always be an alternative!

We were there two years ago - lovely site some really good pitches especially further up the site. Good pool to chill out (it was hot).
There was a minibus from the reception into town and you could get it back too. (Otherwise a steep walk - not good on the old knees).
also from TOrist office in town you can get bus to the Puy d.dome - We didn't find that out until too late.
Enjoy. One of our fav sites.
