Chiavenna Route to Lake Como

Does anyone know what the Splugenpass route (S36) to the north end of Lake Como via Campodolcino and Chiavenna is like for caravans ? 

From the map it looks as if it might be a bit steep but it does save quite a bit of time if you are heading for a site at the north end of the lake.
