Channel tunnel and illegal immigrants

I'm planning my first trip to France in June this year and am thinking of taking the tunnel route.  In the light of recent publicity regarding illegal immigrants and the hassle at Calais, I wondered if anyone has experience of this problem and whether it
really is a serious issue for caravanners?  Comments and/or advice gratefully received.
