Microsoft have not sorted all their bugs in Win 10 yet.  Best to wait for the next full update or service pack for Win 10.

Have a look.at what personal details Win 10 harvests from their customers.

Undecided. It was fine once i got used to it but then the O/H struck again trying to download pics off her mobile and since then i cant do
a thing with it Sad somehow the format has completely changed and even my grandson who,s a bit of a wizard cant sort it.He said i should have
stayed with window 8 its less complicated.

Hi, I'm the OH & also downloaded windows 10 to laptop by mistake.  I am getting used to it but still a lot to get my head round as I have never had anything other than a basic phone & Windows 7 on laptop. Hubby using his tablet all the time now.  Am curious
as to what personal details is ''harvested'' from customers but wouldn't know how to look for it. On the advice of my grandson I am now using Firefox instead of Explorer & find this OK

not be difficult to alter your settings but alas thats not always the case Sad.

Not had a problem with mine & it seems to run very well & a little bit faster too. The only thing I cannot find a way of doing with 10 is the ability to have the temp internet files cleared when I come out of the browser. Regards, Roy

Ours has speeded up our slow broadband, it has taken me a while to get used to it. Regarding "harvesting information" you can opt out of this by changing the optional settings. I use the customise and control tab, top right on the tool bar to clear browsing data, using "more tools."

IMO, Win 10 is about the worst operating system that Microsoft have produced.  I use the analogy of buying a house with a large overgrown garden.  You have to cut hard back, dig, kill the pernicious weeds and get back to the bare ground before you can see
    what you want to grow.

I've just got a new machine with Win 10 - yeuch!  I installed Classic shell to get a proper start button and desktop.  I removed all the live tiles, set downloads to 'metered' , stopped peer to peer communications and didn't  set up onedrive.   It's been
well reported that rather than speeding up anything, Win 10 hogs internet resource and slows down anything sharing your internet.

I certainly won't upgrade this laptop - Win 8 is fine, and I'm looking at replacing Win 10 with Ubuntu.

Again the OH. Thank you Brue from Somerset for clear directions of where to set options. Did this OK. Will keep looking at it to make sure nothing changes 'on its own' or by my hitting wrong shortcut keys.

Only one real complaint with Windows 10 and that is that automatic downloads often have an adverse effect until the next download

Can't say I really like Win 10, still finding problems especially downloading photos from a camera. As I am self taught wish now I had stayed with Win 7.

I found photos difficult to understand, there are different settings. The album area is nicely arranged but to edit I now go into file explorer (find it on top left of start up screen) and edit as I used to do in "pictures." Editing is much more limited
in the new album viewing area. I still don't find it that easy but I'm getting there.

Upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 a couple of weeks ago. I've been holding off upgrading to allow for 12 months of tweaks/service packs to come in first.

The upgrade was painless and whilst I'm not bowled over by Windows 10, it does boot quicker and all of my previous applications and games still work fine.

For me I made the right decision, especially as the security support for Win7 will end in 2020.

To those who have upgraded -

Does anyone use Office 2003 (all elements)?

    Microsoft Money?

    Photoshop Elements 13?

Weather Display (weather station data programme)?

    Crystal Reprts 2008?

    Family Historian?

I run these on my Win 7 Desktop - and with a bit of tweaking got them all running on my Laptop (8.1). I am reluctant to lose any of them.

Windows 10 is an abomination and a violation of your human rights.  It is spyware not an operating system. It is designed to spy on you to harvest as much information about you as it can which Microsoft can use and "share with their partners", i. e. sell
to anyone without your expressed permission.  If you have not opted out of the 13 pages and one website of "hidden" options you have given Microsoft permission to read all your emails, use your microphone and camera to watch and listen to you, collect your
passwords, track and use algorithms to collect information on websites you use (banking? Doctors? Shopping? etc.)

They have turned Windows 7 and 8.1 into Malware to force you to move to Windows 10.

If you don't believe me ask yourself why they gave you a new operating system which they would previously have sold for £100. Finally, read the computer press or Google "Windows 10 is spyware".

Write your comments here...Excellent post WB. Most Win 10 users are totally unaware of Microsoft's hidden intentions. The Computer press have been suggesting the harvesting of user information by Win 10  for many months now.

Also Microsoft have allegedly planned to have a massive Win 10 upgrade-- just before the "FOR FREE" offer terminates. It is called Redstone and it is rumoured that Microsoft are to drop key Win 10 features during this massive upgrade.

    Surprised

Back to the quill pen and a rider on horseback then? (I expect they opened the occasional letter even then.)

Not strictly true, click on windows button-settings-privacy, and you can choose what info if any is harvested.

Hi Wanderbirds - why do you say that Windows 8.1 is malware?  So far (being somewhat of a luddite type) I have nothing adverse about it, given that I know not what information it is collecting about me. It seems to work as anticipated and doesn't cause me grief. Whereas I am not au fait with all it's intricacies could you be more specific so that I may be more suitably informed.

     Many thanks

The reason I and many others believe Windows 7 and 8 are now malware is because Microsoft have introduced updates which over-ride your privacy settings and settings which prevent the download of Windows 10 to force your computer to do so.  Almost all recent
updates of my windows 7 has seen one to change your update settings to allow the automatic10 download.  Many people have had their download limits exceeded without their permission.  I have installed software to try to stop microsofts activities and check
and reset my windows setting almost daily.  I suggest that if you have Windows you do the same.

Getting more complicated. Dont really care about someone collecting data, after all everyone does it, even Tesco when shopping.Much more interested in ease of use, ability to download pics from my camera and editing them. Looks like I will take the plunge
before the free offer expires. Thanks to all.

Thanks Wanderbirds, I reckon that being a complete greenhorn at these things I will just have to go with the flow. If 10 comes along, as an option, than likely I will try not to download it but regrettably I am sufficiently ignorant that I might do it by
accident. As a matter of interest do Apple collect as much personal data and should I switch to an a Mac Pro?

I switched to a MacBook pro two and a half years ago as I didn't want to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 8. I still have an old laptop running XP although I only boot it up once in a while to update the Virusscan and rarely use it for anything.

    Hello redface,

Whilst Apple do collect a lot of info they are not being as underhand as Microsoft and Google.  Microsoft is known as "The Borg" because they want to force everyone to become part of the collective (if you don't understand this reference talk to a Star Trek
fan).  I'm thinking of going back to a Mac to edit my photos.  I don't trust the NHS to keep my medical records secure given their record of "loosing" millions of Britons' full medical details when taking them to America for "analysis".  I certainly don't
    trust Microsoft.
