Hi, we have just returned from 3 weeks touring inFrance,

This was our first time abroad with the van so, looking forward to having a few BBQ's in the evening i put 2 bags of charcoal in boot and off we went. Agter visiting 6 sites over 3 weeks we were only alllowed to have a Charcoal BBQ at one site, Pity the
weather was pretty awful for the 3 days we were their so we never got around to using the BBQ. We have now returned back to the U.K. with both bags of Charcoal still in tact. It's a Gas one next time. FrownLaughing

Many of the sites which don't permit barbecues on your pitch have a communal one you can use.  Sites which don't allow them are generally in areas of high fire risk, and communal barbecues are always safely sited on the edge of a paved area or an area where there are no trees.

We''ve just been on a site in the Pyrenees Orientales, which was in the middle of a pine wood, so absolutely no chance of barbecueing on a pitch - but there were six communal barbecues dotted around the site and it makes for a very convivial evening chatting over the hot coals whilst your kebabs are cooking!

Out of the 7 sites we used only 2 allowed charcoal. According to two of the sites management it isn't the site but the local authority that bans there use.
