Le Domaine d'Oleron
We are currently staying on the Ile D’Oleron off the West coast of France..
Whilst sightseeing today we passed by the above site which is mentioned in the CC Continental Caravanning brochure (CCCCb). The site is described in the brochure as “set in 7 acres of land , filled with trees, flowers and shrubs”. Whilst this may be true it fails to mention that the site has a large number of static caravans and is also host to a number of ready erected tent companies.
The MH/Caravan pitches total 40 out of the 170 number pitches stated in the brochure. The pitches are described as grassy and flat pitches separated by hedges. The grassy pitches were only separated by the odd bush which created an open aspect unlike the more traditional emplacemenst with substantial hedges on other areas of the site
We have noticed before that any site listed in the CCCCb does tend to have a much higher proportion of British campers than you normally see on other sites. In our estimation it was around 90% during our visit
The British seemed in general to have chosen the more open pitches that did give more than a passing resemblance to a Club site back home
Unfortunately, walking around the site all the British traits that I do find embarrassing were on show namely:
Windbreaks used in conjunction with large awnings to “fence off each pitch” so as to repel any foreign invasion
Flags/ Kites waving in the wind confirming that the Brits are here. Actions IMO that are more akin to a stag weekend in Magaluf!
If you are the type of person who likes to see a blend of nationalities when on site I would suggest that other sites may be more to your liking
