CRIS
Do I need to take my CRIS document with me when caravaning abroad and if so will a photocopy do?

Just as you wish. Neither is actually needed and I don't have any CRIS documents at all.

We never carry the CRIS document in the caravan. It is stored in a safe place at home. In nearly 20 years of travelling in France we were never asked for it.

We were stopped for a random check as we entered a German autobahn service station the other day. The police asked for driving licence, vehicle registration and caravan registration. As my caravan was an import it never had a CRIS so I carry the original sale invoice. He was happy with that. It is the first time I have ever been asked for it though.
Note that in mainland Europe most countries require registration of caravans as well as cars etc. Being British you do not have a registration document, so it is always as well to carry your CRIS or sales invoice. However do not keep it in the caravan, for obvious reasons! It is always possible that you will come across a policeman who does not understand the British system.
