"but if it is before the high season it may be possible to "pinch" a bit of space from the next door pitch if it is unoccupied."
If there's one thing that really gets us annoyed when touring in low season, it's caravanners parking their cars on vacant pitches thus reducing our choice of pitch. Don't do it. You will find that the site management will take a dim view as well.
It annoys us too and it is not always caravanners it can be boats motorcycle trailers etc and there are some people who do it as a ploy to keep neighbours further away from them when there's ample room on their pitch, but if we want the pitch we just
ask them to move.We agree David! Motorhomers put their towed cars and a frames on pitches. Some motorhomers who have hired cars locally put them on pitches as well. Like you, we will ask them to move if needs be, but most site managers soon sort them out.

Just been looking at sites in Tuscany, and we were wondering about Camping Belsito inland from Montecatini Terme. I know it's a long shot, but just wondered if anyone from on here has been. There are a couple of reviews on UKCS as a starting point. They
seem to have a selection of pitch sizes, including some large ones. Swimming pool complex looks good, but I'm a bit concerned about the roads to get to the site after the main turn off to Montecatini.Any takers??

DSB,
Caravanner From Warwickshire –
distances, distances, distances very much springs to mind, not wishing to dampen your
enthusiasm, excitement for your trip. In previous discussions, speed was mentioned, whilst I ‘admit’ I have exceeded the speed limit (3 lane motorways, not using that as any form of defence) - a comment
was passed - When I am overtaken by anyone driving at the sort of speeds mentioned here I am just relieved when they are out of sight and unlikely to take us with them when they crash.
May I suggest your first 2 days itinerary places you in the same ‘bad boys bin’ as me? - Day 1: Travel from home to Calais - catch Eurotunnel late evening. Day 2:
Travel through the night to arrive in the Mosel in the morning: - Calais to the Mosel 300 miles plus, 45 minute crossing additional time within the Eurotunnel complex both sides and additional home to
Eurotunnel distance – more or less of a risk? A final observation - age? (please dont take offence)0 -
Hi Steve. Thank you for your comments. I would be the first to warn anybody of the dangers of long journeys, and would always ask folk to seriously consider if they could do it, and to have a back up plan if they need to stop. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I am one of those folk who tends to have difficulty in dropping off to sleep at night, and have had experience in travelling long distances at night.
In 2014, I travelled in a similar way from home to Gueret in France - about 100 miles further than home to the Mosel. On this occasion I built in an extra nights stop at Orleans, but on arriving at Orleans in the morning, decided I didn't really need to stop, so carried straight on to arrive a day early.
I actually enjoy travelling through the night, although I didn't especially enjoy the bit skirting Paris. It's surprisingly busy at 4am. I find night driving more comfortable - it's a lot cooler driving at night in the summer - and in the days when the kids were small, we avoided the 'are we nearly there yet' syndrome - they were asleep. Of course if I need to stop, I will, and if I'm a little later in arriving on the Mosel, then so be it. One of my back up plans is my wife, who is always happy to share in the driving - although she doesn't usually get chance!
I don't usually break the speed limit - in fact, pulling the caravan, I often travel below the legal towing limit - probably more as a concern for my car.
Best wishes
David (1.45am )
