Hello

We have a Cadac Carri Chef 2. Have only used it once, and the meal was not a success. Steak was bland and tastless, no bbq taste at all. It was also a pain to clean. Husband now hates the bbq and says we've wasted money on it. Can anyone please give us some
tips on where we are going wrong with it or what we are meant to cook on it? Many thanks

I bought the paella pan to use with mine as it's non stick and use it for most things.done full breakfasts and all kinds of meats veg etc. It's basically  a gas grill rather than a bbq but it suits my usage requirements

Clairenizzi, the Cadac Is not really a BBQ its just a gas hob with a selection of cooking surfaces for use outside, you will never get a BBQ taste with it. You will only get a BBQ taste with a charcoal BBQ.

i have a Cobb and use it with different wood chips to give a lovely smokey flavour.

We have had our Cadac for 3 years now and love it. As others have said it isn't really a BBQ so you won't get that charcoal taste from it but we do burgers etc on it a lot and they always taste great and it cooks very quickly. We bought the stone pizza tray
for it too and that is fantastic the pizzas are excellent cooked on it. It can be difficult to clean but I have never found it too much of a pain. There are lots of things you can cook on it we have done currys, roast chicken, steaks etc all good it just takes
a bit of getting used to like what surfaces to use for each food etc.

i wonder if you could clean it the same way i clean my george forman grill.  When finished i turn off the grill, put a wadge of damp kitchen towel in it and close the lid.  After we've eaten all i have to do is wipe it over, i'm fussy and then give it a
spray of antibacterial spray and a damp wipe then to get rid of any trace of it.

RJLJ that's what I do with mine stick some water on it and the dogs get a gravy treat and it's not hard to clean that way.

We have a Carri Chef 1 and really like it.  It takes the cooking outside - which we like.  It makes cooked breakfasts really good and it's much more controllable than a traditional BBQ.  True, it's not the same as a BBQ, but it feels like a BBQ with control.

It is the only outside cooking device we use these days - and in France, where certain sites don't allow a traditional BBQ, it means we can still cook outside.

They can be a pain to clean, but we have swapped the tin BBQ grill which came with the Cadac for a chrome/wire type traditional BBQ look-a-like (available from Towler and Staines), which we find much more straightforward to clean.  A traditional BBQ is a
pain to clean anyway, so we don't find it too different to be honest.

There are some useful videos and tips on YouTube. I looked at these before making the decision to buy the Cadac Safari 2.

I would agree with everything Francis says, we've had our Cadac for 5 years now and wouldn't be without abroad. I've made pancakes on the flat plate no problem, burgers, fish, steaks etc. on the ridged plate, curries on the gas ring and stir frys in the
    Wok.

Cleaning tip for the non stick plates is to wipe them with with a little oil after washing, try not to scrub the plates as this diminishes the non stick properties.

But when its over 25c its to hot to cook inside, much more civilised to sit outside in the shade having a beer/wine, who wants cooking smells especially fish inside the van when you don't have toLaughing

I agree TG.  The other thing is, I can cook sitting on my chair when using the Cadac rather than hovering over a cooker in the van.

I'm not a fan of fish - unless it's fried with chips!  I manage quiet well with my steak, sausage, burgers and mushrooms on the BBQ grill - and finish of with a camembert cheese wrapped in foil and grilled.  Ideal for dipping French bread.  Good for a full
English breakfast too - on the non-stick griddle.  (Hint: I always use a baco-glide sheet - it makes the griddle much easier to clean)

Agreed, and our favourites of Sardines, or Mackeral are definitely best cooked on the Cadac, otherwise you are smelling them for a week.

Might not be authentic BBQ taste but a sprig or two of woody Thyme / Rosemary placed on to the defector, when in BBQ mode, produces enough herby smoke to give lamb a lovely flavour.

The trouble with fish like mackeral, you can smell and taste it for ages after eating....and if you burp, you get the taste all over again.

Question for those of you who do have a Cadac. . . . does it plug in to an external gas point on the caravan (if you have one) or do you need to purchase a seprate gas bottle?

I would like to buy one but the hubby isn't too keen as he likes our little webber charcoal bbq.  He's taking some convincing. . .

Yes, you can use it from the external gas point. Good luck with the persuading.Smile
