A Tough Decision

True, but what intrigues me is that near the end of 2015 a CC Ltd staffer proudly told me that CC Ltd had fixed the Euro GBP exchange rate for 2016 at 1.4. On that basis the cost of the site through CC Ltd should be £11.38 per night. 50% extra seems a
bit steep to meWrite your comments here...
Well, if it's true that the exchange rate has been fixed for 2016 at £1 = euro 1.4, why are we being charged £14.95 for a euro 16 Camping Cheque?
The rip-off continues.
i suggest that the only reason any of us now buy cheques is to get the reduced ferry fares.

Hi [Deleted User User]
Camping Trologot (booking code B29) is £13.32 per night if you book from 01/05-05/07 or 26/08-30/09 with the Caravan Club. I am not sure where the price of £15.93 has come from?
Booking direct is €18.65 for the same dates.
We also have an offer of book 7 nights or more and get one night free, so a seven night stay works out at £11.42 per night (for low season)
I know that our prices are often compared to ACSI but the Caravan Club and ACSI do not offer a like for like service. ACSI do not make bookings and do not need to cover the cost of an on-line booking service or a contact centre.
Have a good evening

It's a campsite we know very well. The idea that anyone would need to book there for a visit early in May is quite frankly laughable.

The 2016 Venture Abroad brochure, which is perhaps more up to date than the Summer 2015 to Spring 2016 shows the prices as from £13.32 to £17.00

Morning Deleted UserUser
Thanks for highlighting the difference in price from the 2015/2016 supplement. All the prices in the supplement are for 2015 except from some of the Spanish sites which go forward for spring in 2016.
We have no plans to do a pricing supplement again.

Hi Deleted User User
We offer advance booking in low season because some members like to pre-book. We have members who travel with us year on year and always pre-book their sites in advance for both low and high season holidays.
I understand that the majority of members on the forum do not pre-book and have no interest in pre-booking, but there are plenty of members who appreciate and want to use the travel service. Some members want to know where they are going and when they are going there.

Thank you Hazel for pointing out the fact that some (not all) members like to be organised and don't want to run the risk of not getting onto a site that they want.
I have booked 2 sites in Germany and 1 site in Holland for June. Only one of those sites is in the CC's brochure, but we have booked direct with the site as price wise it will be cheaper than the Club.

Some people prefer/like to plan their holidays and have the comfort, as they see it, in having everything planned. This is pretty usual on any number of non caravanning holidays but being a caravanner/motorhomer we do have a large degree of freedom to do
as you wish. This freedom also includes the ability to book sites out of the main season and I am not sure there should be an inferred criticism or questioning of those who prefer to work that way? Some will want to book ahead regardless of how experienced
they may be, so what is wrong with that?David

Good post!

I will repeat what I have said before:
We offer a pre-booking service because members use it.
We also sell and promote the ACSI card, Camping Cheques and Touring Europe books for members who do not want to pre-book. All of these products are promoted in the Venture Abroad brochure and on our website.
Would you prefer for the Caravan Club to stop all overseas sites bookings?
Just curious as why you are so against pre-booking?

In our organisation, allanandjean, there are two polar opposite views. The jean part would like to book everything and be 'organised' knowing where she will be staying each night. Whilst the allan part has no problem with this approach if you are using Camping Cheques or ACSI there are may places where you cannot book in advance. There is also the case where the site, such as was the case at our favourite Bella Italia, only takes bookings for particular times, usually high season, which again prevents booking.
In the UK I cannot recall the last time that we did not book, but, in Europe, its exactly the opposite and we have been turned away three times at Bella but got on the next day.
Despite the jean part disliking this, and the trepidation that it brings her,the appeal of this site outweighs these concerns
Despite this I think AD was saying that, in general, there is no need to book not that it was 'wrong' in any way.
NB-the two posts above this appeared whilst I was, very slowly, typing the above comment!

Would also like to add the following:
If a member makes a holiday booking and arrives at campsite and is not happy, my telephone number 01342 336766 is on page 168 of the Venture Abroad brochure.
Members can discuss their issues and where appropriate myself and the overseas travel team will organise a change of campsite and a refund of fees paid.
This is not always possible if the dissatisfaction is down to weather or something that is outside of the campsites control, but we always do our upmost to help and resolve situations when a member is unhappy on their holiday

I can think of nothing worse than after driving for 4-5 hours to discover that the site that I haven't booked is unable to fit me in (and I know that will probably not be the case in June)!. On the 3 sites i have booked none of them has asked for any money,
so if I don't like the site when I get there I can always pay for one night and then move on.For Hazel, I have booked into Rudesheim, a site on the Mosel and a site just outside of Maastrict. These last two are not in the brochure.

Different people do things different ways, we like to go as the whim takes us and so drift around from place to place as we feel with nothing booked, my friend on the other hand plans and books or reserves everything, stops include where he will stop for
fuel, shopping, meals and coffee. [ timed ] In a 4 month trip things go wrong but he gets back on track, they enjoy it their way, we enjoy it ours.0
