Booking a Caravan Club site
I recently requested a Standard Hard standing pitch with awning at the Wirral Country Park. The day before we were to go, they rang up and cancelled due to flooding. After much difficulty we managed to get another site. We visited the site for future reference
and found out our pitch was cancelled because it was grass and too waterlogged. We said it was hard standing. They replied that it was Caravan club policy that you get what is available on the day. Can you tell me if this is true

Basically yes, you can only pre book a hard standing pitch on the 5 trial sites. The Wirral site isn't one of them as far as I know, so you can only book awning or non awning and take your pick from what's available when you arrive.

Unfortunately you are in the wrong section BMark. However if I answer perhaps a mod can close or move it.
The CC only allows pitch type to be booked at a few sites. Wirral is not one of these. Therefore you get to choose from what is available on the day. In the event of cancelation due to weather being required, the policy is last booked first canceled.

And possibly the trial is showing a lack of demand for grass pitches, as easyT states, hence it throws up a fresh set of problems (the effective reduction in the number of pitches available across the network).....?

Unless you happen to be a solo booking when there was a later group (ie more lucrative) booking, then you might be the one to get bumped off not the ones who booked later - as Vivien found!

Beat me to it but yes that is correct, untill the trial is rolled out network wide
I wonder if it will be rolled out? May need more HS if it is.
Im sure the trial is going swimmingly....trouble is, no one gives any updates as to its success or not.....so we dont know
this tiny trial has been ongoing for ages now, so it won't be in place (if at all) until the 2017 season at the earliest....talk about slow motion.....
Oh come on BB......it's only been a year and a half......you cannot rush these thing!
Well, yes actually you can. One whole season would surely b more than enough.

This was an assumption some people took from an ambiguous reply to the order in which bookings were cancelled. It is simply not known if it did happen or not.

Not sure you are correct on that one Wildwood - but it certainly opened my eyes to the possibility of cancellation at the last minute.
Basically the club gave a set of criteria that could be used to cancel bookings but no information was given for the specific case. Occupation numbers of a unit was a possibility but whether that was applied was never clear.

I seem to recall that the reply from the CC at the time more or less confirmed this to be the case?
They gave a list of criteria and the numbers on the pitch was one option but that was it. There was never anything other than that and the actual reason remained speculation. To me the idea of even having this as a possible criteria is wrong. The only fair way is last booked first cancelled.
