And, I assume, the limits on wine etc brought back to the UK will revert to the 3 litres level.Sad Need
    to stock up soon

Now that might lead to some hostility - although we always seemed to manage to bring in more than the limits, before 2002 when they still existed.

    Oh really?! What an admission.

Why do we need a referendum in June? would it not be better after the Elected MEPs have kicked it all into touch as could very well happen,or is it to get it done and dusted before that happens?Undecided

Absolutely none!  We've met no hostility whatsoever on our trips to France, Spain, and elsewhere.  I can't imagine that it will make any difference.  We've been holidaying in Europe before we were in the EU, we continued whilst we were in the EU, and will still continue if we ever come out of the EU!

We had a long discussion on a campsite in the Gers, in French, during the time of the Scottish referendum, with a Belgian and a French man.  The consensus was that it was really only the Germans who wanted an EU in the first place!  (And I won't go into what they said about Why!!!!)

I'm not really quite sure why you think it will have any major effect.

Your very dismissive about this, but I know you are something of a Francophile. I would have to say I am too - especially as I am writing this from my French home. But there will be impacts. There are lots of reciprocal arrangements regarding health, pensions and the already rather superior border police are only likley to be much more superior with longer queues and more questions. But if anecdotal evidence counts for anything (which it doesn't but I will say it anyway) those I have spoken to, here, seem to think it would not make much difference. It won't happen anway,

I must reject the often trawled notion (whether spoken French or otherwise) that europeans are as anti EU as many Brits. There are some (and we can all quote individuals) but the majority are in it for good. The notion of France or Belgium voting to leave the EU were they to get the chance is I think extremely unlikely.

Remember that it the EU which wanted to impose a carvan MOT against the wishes of all the main parties at the time. It was mainly/perhaps/ (delete as you think fit) due to the main clubs, and us, lobying the MEP's that changed it, Otherwise we'd all be spending an annual sum on that coupled to the country's cost of getting each caravan its own registration plate (otherwise how would you check).

This is what gets me about the EU, someone outside our elected govermnet tells us what to do!

if we leave we will have no influence over what is needed before we can take our vans abroad.

...We did not have a problem before we went in

who cares what it is was like in the 1960's ? - it's the future that is important

..If they want to be that funney about things then a staycation is no problem its their loss

The vote will be to stay in. Old folks chuntering about the old days of empire mean nothing. We have been in union with Europe for over 40yrs, the majority of voters have never known anything other than being Europeans. They will carry the day, not the 'harkers
back' We as a Country have next to nothing to crow about, within Europe we are greater/bigger/mightier. On our own we are a tiny island with no power. I don't decide on party lines, just common sense.

Write your comments here...On the old folks theme don't you all think it would be a good idea to stop anyone over seventy voting while letting sixteen year olds the vote because it is about the future of the young not old people who will in all probabillities
be dead before the Brexit will take any effect. I'll get my tin hat know and go for a beer.

It does worry me that a large majority who are completely oblivious to the full picture because of bllnkered attitudes, are going to decide the future of this country.

Don't think anything will change Significantly. The Germans, French and Italians will continue to want to sell us Brits tow cars, motorhomes and caravans.  Don't think they will want to jeopardise their leisure businesses

I was in Hohne in the mid to late 60's and a sizeable portion of the population of Bergen used to hold regular anti British weeks!

Been back for the past couple of years and Bergen is a sad site now the the Brit Army and Dutch military have moved out.  Loads of shops, pubs etc closed, sad really.  Perhaps the same will happen when the Yanks pull out of East Anglia!

Thanks oneputt, didn't think I'd imagined the anti britishness. We spent 6 years in Hohne in the 70's I worked for the Germans for awhile during that time, spoke German quite well then. we later spent 2 years in Fallingbostel and 3 years in Verden. Like
Hohne they are all gone, huge camps now full of migrants and refugees. As I said in my earlier post its changed days, we now find Germans more pleasant and polite, they are even keen now to practice their english.Wink

Oh my looks like several of us rubbed shoulders living in Fallingbostel and Hohne in the 70s!  I lost my daughter a toddler in a German market petrifying few minutes!!!  But a lot has changed since then!  I worry that the decision is not one for the lay
people.  None of us know what will really happen but I hope to be able to carry on touring And holidaying as easily as I can now - which is far easier than before the EU.

I think if we come out, the value of the pound will fall, certainly in the short term and possibly for ever. (we are no longer a manufacturing nation, think about it!) which will make it more expensive to holiday on the Continent and for that matter anywhere else.

    Like Hohne

TG I was in Hohne 65/69 with 11 Hussars and in Verden/Fallingbostel with Army Aircorp  1970 to end of 1972.  Personally never had any anti British feeling from local population, in fact the opposite.  Had a great time in Germany which is why we now go back
    at least once a year.

Back on topic, if you ever sit on Dover docks/ tunnel etc.,  for any length of time you will soon discover that at least 80% of trucks loading/unloading are not UK registered that may well give some idea of the balance of trade.  Why would our European neighbors
jepodise that trade to make life harder for us caravanners/motorhomers?

well seems 'project fear' has really taken hold here already!

I am amazed by some of the comments...

While I have not yet taken a caravan to the continent I do drive across regularly on business mostly in France/Belgium/Holland/Germany. I for one do not believe that us leaving the EU will make the slightest difference in how we are regarded
in the rest of the EU........the worlds a much smaller place and getting smaller by the minute...we all have friends and family spread throughout Europe and whether we vote IN or OUT will not change how you are treated in the slightest!

As to the other 'fears', why would getting to Europe be any more difficult. We will still have to show passports leaving the UK and/or arriving in EU as we do now.........in theory border controls could be arranged to make it more awkward
for us BUT.......same would then apply to anyone from  the EU coming to the UK so would inconvenience their citizens as much as us! We would only be allowed into EU for 90days at a time.....seriously where did that one come from???? What about the  3 million
EU born folks living in the UK. Are we really saying that those 3 million will have to leave or to obtain work VISA's or ..................... the reality is that should the vote be OUT then border controls
could prevent EU immigration (to work and live in UK), if we so chose but there is no way that travel restrictions limiting the time you can spend on holiday in the EU could ever be implemented! The EU would have as much or more to lose than
    us.

One final point......there have been several posts here about the Scots hating the English. As a Scot I find these comments very offensive and believe those views are based on a stereotype which to some extent is still portrayed by the
media but is certainly not based on reality....these include:

    1. We hate the English

    2. We are all drunkards

    3. Everything we eat is deep fried

    4. We are very dour (pessimistic)

    5. We are mean

As for the comment that English registered cars are vandalized in Scotland......just what is an English registered car??? I could not tell you and I doubt the average hoodie out looking to get up to mischief would know either......clearly
these posts are total nonsense Surprised

I went through the red channel once, when we came back with to much. It actually ended up being quicker and the customs officer was rather amused, he just waved us on when I told him why we had stopped.

That one came from the current rules !  Non EU/Schengen nationals can only spend 90 days out of 180 in the EU - for example an American touring Europe can only spend 90 days doing so.  There is no point saying why would the EU do that as they DO do it.  Working
or living in the EU would require a visa to do so.  You can't expect to leave the club, stop paying the subs  but still get all the benefits.

I can't really see there is any cause for concern. Certainly staying in, as is my preference, will continue to make things easier. However, if we should leave, what country is going to put barriers in the way of us continuing to spend money in their country,
    rather than ours.

Fair point if you consider a UK out of the EU comparable with America.......but what about the 3 million EU citizens living in UK. They would be forced to apply for work VISAs?

Presumably yes, and it would work the other way round, too. That's why I've taken precautions in case it happens and applied for dual nationality.

You can have dual nationality while legally holding a British passport?

Answered my own question....a quick google and turns out dual nationality is recognised in UK but some other countries don't allow this......now I know,
