Although October is low season I suggest you do book in advance. If you are comming through France let me suggest you campings either in Costa Brava or in Costa Dorada (Golden Cost), (I prefer beaches more in Costa Dorada) they have beautiful places to visit,
they are realli comfortable and you´ll enjoy great food at reasonable prices.

Do you mean transit sites across France? I don't even book sites like that in July.

We have our route that we use in Jan/Feb to get to Spain through France. ( see sticky thread). You need to plot a route which has campsites open all-year on the way. Some municipal sites stay open for itinerant workers. You can't book these sites, but there
    are always pitches available.

I took the advise on here and emailed the campsite of our choice, in Portugal they emailed back saying they don't take bookings and are never full, not tried Spain though.

We are experienced continental caravanners, but this November we've decided to drive back through France to catch the Eurotunnel instead of taking the Bilbao long crossing to Portsmouth. The Bay of Biscay can be very unpleasant, as we've experienced. We
know sites are open across Spain to Bordeaux. Would appreciate any advise or information on proper sites that are open heading north through France.

BrainW48, we came back up through France last November and stayed at Bordeaux then Tours, however we caught the ferry at Caen so couldn't help you with anything further North. Have a look at the thread in the begining of this section there is a thread called 'Open all year sites' there is lots of info in that.
