We are looking at trips for next year ( May/ June) has anyone stayed at a site in or near Vienna they can recommend? We would like to be able to easily bike into the city if that's possibly?

We are a motorhome under 7 m ( or we might be a van conversion 6 m)

Also any other must see places nearby or on route? Or good places to stay on route?

    Beverley

We did a similar trip earlier this year and you may find my blog of interest. When we got to Vienna we stayed here . From the site Vienna is easily accessable by train or bus from almost outside the campsite. I am sure there are cycle routes although I would have thought that using public transport might give you a bit more freedom.

We stayed at Camping Neue Donau which is convenient for the city by bike.

They also run day trips to Bratislava direct from the campsite. We went by bus one way and returned on the river.

The site is not a good 'caravanners' site...ie not for sitting out and looking at the view or having excellent facilities.

It's rough round the edges but very convenient!

There are a couple of other sites, all the same company, and a Stellplatz.

PS Davids second link is one of the other sites...David for info your 'blog' link shows a 404 error.

Spent 10 days in Camping Vienna West last year, It was in midd April and the other two Campsites in the group were not open. It is not good for bikes as it is up a long hill from the main road. We were in car/caravan so it did not matter. If you want to
use your bikes for getting around try Camping Neue Donau, much closer and better for bikes (no big hills). Hope this helps

We stayed at Neue Donau many years ago, in fact not long after it opened. Our reasoning for staying at Donaupark Camping, at Klosterneuberg was that it was away from the every day hub bub of the City. If memory serves me correctly the travel time via public
transport is about the same. I would add though that Donaupark Camping does not have large pitches and is often full but the facilities are very good.

To visit Vienna city in a motorhome, I can recommend  Reisemobil Stellplatz Wein. Do a google search, they have an English website.

Its located in the south of the city, 7km from the centre. Crucially its about 500m from the metro straight into the city or wherever you want to go.  Not cheap but good value and an ideal base.

Sorry tuggers but they do not accept caravans.

We stayed at Klosterneuburg this year.  Public transporat was great, station and bus station only a couple of hundred meters from the camp.  Site does not allow tag axle vans.  Midges/mossies can be a pain.  We would stay again.

There is a cycle route right along the Danube and we met a number of cyclist who camped on the site, so yes you can cycle along the river to the city.  No idea how long it would take though.
