Mupflaps or no mudflaps ?

We have a set of fiat ducato moulded mudflaps (front). Do other motorhome users consider them worth fitting ?  Can they potentially damage paintwork once fitted ? and finally, any advice on how to fit them as the instructions provided are non existant !
