Dordogne.....

As I have left it incredibly late to decide where to go this year, my initial choice of site is understandably full!

Can anyone suggest a site ( along the lines of Soleil Plage) , we like a pool, cycling, fishing, decent sized site so there is the chance for our 13yr old to make friends.

No speedos rule............limits things I know!

any help much appreciated, looked at Moulin du Roche, but seen a few iffy reviews, so not sure!

We had a 10 night stay at Les Péneyrals (CC site No A18) in early May. Our weather wasn't particularly good, but we enjoyed it. Very welcoming, plenty to do, big pitch, 10 mins from Sarlat. Site has nice pools with slides etc and other facilities.Spotless
sanitaries. Site has Eurocamp and Canvas Holidays in certain parts of it, but it may well suit you if it has space.

When are you going?  We've been to both Soleil Plage and Moulin du Roch.   The timing of your holiday will make all the difference - last two weeks of August and it may not be too difficult to find somewhere,  earlier than that and you may really struggle to find somewhere with "a pool, cycling, fishing, decent sized site so there is the chance for our 13yr old to make friends plus No speedos rule............limits things I know!"

Which bits might you compromise on?

There is a site right next door to Soleil Plage - La Bouysse - which has availability - but probably mostly French friends for your thirteen year old and I don't know about the speedos thing.

A few years ago we stayed at Chateau du Gibanel at Argentat. It's right on the river and only a mile or two from town.  The site had lots of facilities and, it's fair to say, was family orientated with lots of activities for kids.  We had a good time there.
Only problem that I can recall was that we found it impossible to get our American Express travellers cheques cashed anywhere within a 30 miles radius.

Not sure about the 'speedos' or suiability for a 13 old but would secono vote for Gibanel.

We stayed at Argentat whilst following the TDF in 2011 and it is a very nice site in a great location.

We liked Argentat too - and if you do there then make sure you visit the fantastic

    Tours de Merle
    - a beautiful old ruined castle, in a slightly magical setting, where they do re-enactments which might interest your thirteen year old (depending on his/her interests)!

By the way, we found Moulin du Roch anything but iffy.  We've been twice (last time 2014), and recommended it to friends too, who also liked it.  But, we holiday in low season and in high season campsites can be very different.  I notice one review mentions
noise around the pool - both times we've been there we've had the pool almost to ourselves!

Thanks everyone, im fully prepared to compromise on everything.

I know i can get in to Moulin du Roche, if you have been Val and its good, will probably go with that.

unfortunatley we have to go last week in July, first week in Aug!

Well the reviews suggest it's very different then.  We had a pitch on the meadow by the pool but if the pool speakers blare out music, as had been suggested, then it wouldn't suit us at all.  However, when you're going at peak week, and at short notice,
then I suppose anywhere with space is better than nothing (but not if you don't like music around the pool).

Another lovely site near Argentat - Le Vaurette. Family run, popular with Dutch famillies. It's on the banks of the Dordogne and there's plenty of sporting activities for teenagers. Our children always made lots of friends and Dutch kids are on the whole
very well behaved. No loud music.

And Le Vaurette is an ACSI Card site, at 17 euros per night for pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning and electricity, between the following dates  01/05 - 05/07 and 25/08 - 21/09.
