South France 1st time, suggestions please

Hi all, first post!

I have had enough of the British summer weather and seriously thinking of taking a trip to the south of France
, for around 18 days next August, questions inbound!! Can anyone recommend some sites, we would like to be near a beach and also near a town or
village etc. Is it worth the extra expense booking a ferry closer to the south? are there any issues with migrants and caravans etc.
