Being taken for a ride in Italy
I was at my grandson's first birthday party two weeks ago. There were a number of young mums and dads with their one year olds, also.
I got talking to a German girl who had married an Australian who had worked in Britain for a few years.
After getting married, they both lived and worked in Germany for three years before coming to settle in Australia a couple of years ago.
Whilst living on the Continent (Germany) however, they'd travelled a few times into France and even down to Spain on occasion. Eventually the story about their experiences in Italy unfolded.
I was told that prices were inflated for non Italians. It might be 10 Euros to an Italian, 15 Euros to other Europeans.
Becoming increasingly wary, four of them went to a restaurant in an Italian city, and specifically asked if the prices quoted in the menu was all they had to pay?
Yes.
They dined out, alongside a table having about a dozen Italians all dining away as well.
When the time came to settle the bill, they paid the menu prices, but also was a "table" charge of 25 Euros each . . . 100 Euros for all four at the table!
. . . . as if the dozen Italian diners alongside would pay 300 Euros for all to sit at a table???
. . . . . yeah, right!
Have any one of you found this sort of caper occurring on your travels thro Italy?
