Ferries to Spain in January

We are thinking of taking our caravan over to Spain in early January for 6 weeks or so.sailing to Santander or Bilboa.We have a boxer dog who we will be taking with us.

Just wondering does anyone have any experience of crossings in January.I expect it will be quite choppy and we are just a bit concerned our dog who will be in the kennels on board.
