Leaf vs coil on the back end

Following on from another thread asking about a specific vehicle - what are people's views on towing with a vehicle with rear leaf springs?

We have done it years ago, towing with our old landie, but have been told by several people it is really bad for modern caravans and can invalidate the warranty.

Is this a real worry or just a myth?
